MAJOR CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP
AT IROQUOIS PARK SPORTS CENTRE

Two Arenas Get New Names!

Iroquois Park Sports Centre (IPSC), Canada's largest municipal sport, recreation and leisure complex, is pleased to announce the arrival of two major Corporate Partners. Volkswagen and Sobeys are the first to attach their name to an IPSC arena.

Iroquois Park is at the heart of Whitby's sports activities and home to a wide range of minor and adult recreational leagues, as well as two premiere lacrosse teams. The multi-faceted complex which is owned and operated by the Town of Whitby features 6 arenas, 2 swimming pools, 6 tennis courts, 5 ball diamonds and soccer fields as well as a large restaurant and food court area.

The Volkswagen package was initiated by Bob Verwey of Owasco Volkswagen in Whitby in cooperation with Pickering Volkswagen and the Volkswagen Canada head office. "Owasco and Volkswagen have been a sponsor at Iroquois Park since the expansion in 1998" explains Verwey. "It's great exposure and we use all the facility including ice time and lobby displays to develop a relationship with our customers." The partnership was accelerated in December of 1999 resulting in one of the six rinks renamed as Volkswagen Arena 3.

Sobeys Arena 2 becomes the second rink renamed for a sponsor. The position is in support of the grocery chain's recent expansion into Ontario. "Being a proud sponsor of Iroquois Park gives us recognition and credibility, and also sends the message that we actively support the community" states Sobeys Director of Advertising, George Cattan. "Besides advancing our Sobeys, IGA and Price Chopper banners, we will use the sampling and consumer promotion opportunities to promote our various 'Our Compliments' and 'Smart Choice' retail brands."

The expanded Iroquois Park Sports Centre was completed at no cost to the Whitby taxpayer or change to the Town's tax levy, and is sustained through user fees and revenues from corporate partners. "The Iroquois Park Sports Centre offers sponsors a unique opportunity to present their message in a direct and uncluttered environment. Our clients value the association with a high profile, grassroots community institution, and the chance to communicate and even directly interact with our almost 2 million visitors" says Doug Blakely, Manager of Advertising and Sponsorship. The Naming Rights package includes the sponsor's name on all appropriate indoor and outdoor electronic signage, Town publications and collateral materials, centre ice logo, and signage at the Arena entrance and throughout the complex.
